"The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom"

November 6, 2015, Friday marks St Mary’s College of Meycauayan’s Centennial kick-off celebration

It is the exact date of the 100 day countdown before the school celebrates its centennial year as the only catholic educational institution founded here in Meycauayan . As expected, all the members of the school community are all excited for the lined up activities. Planning and preparation are felt long before the actual kick-off.

Drum rolls at exactly 5:30 AM, Mrs. Jogina Mendiola heads the assembly of participants with the assistance of volunteers from the municipality of Meycauayan.

Simultaneously, and with the signal of none other than the president of the institution, Mo. M. Clarita Balleque, RVM, assisted by all members of the faculty and staff, the activity heads on. These are the winners of the aforementioned activity:

Raising of the Centennial flag

One of the most awaited parts of the celebration is the Centennial Flag Raising Ceremony. While the COCCs are carrying the flag in a slow motion but regal procession on the school ground, Mrs. Jogina Mendiola, the HRDO Head, narrated the school’s historical background and its gradual improvement since its infancy. Before the symbolic flag finally rises at the new flag pole beside the centennial stage, Mrs. Eufronia Bordador, the first lay high school principal, Mr.Teodoro Villacarlos the family council president, Engr. Zacarias Del Rosario, the alumni president and Mrs. Teresita Villena, the seasoned teacher who has served the longest years in the school, are enjoined by Mo. Ma. Clarita R. Balleque,RVM, the school president, S. Ma. Domitilla Enriquez, RVM, the college dean and Mrs. Ana Michelle S. Ricalde , the Integrated Basic Education principal. Together, they help raise centennial flag. That is a touching moment yet festive. As the flag rises, Marians sing the school hymn as if saying “long live SMCM”.

To keep the energy sustained, the alumni led the attendees in the Zumba exercise to the beat of music genres from the past till the present. Though the sun jibes with the burning spirit of the Marians, everybody wiggles and jigs with the lively instructors.

Thanksgiving Mass presided by Fr. Emmanuel Cruz. The priest highlighted the school celebration as fitting to the year declared by the Vatican, from December 8, 2015- November 24, 2016, as the “Year of Mercy” with the theme “Be Merciful as God the Father is Merciful.”

Free Concert

The Alumni take care of the free Concert on that same evening. Alumni from different batches showcase their talents. The school ground turned instantly into a concert ground. Superb performances come one after the other as batches of different years and respected guests flock in.
The masters of ceremony none other than Mr. JC Liberan and Ms. Macy Krystalene Aguilar announce the most awaited fireworks display. Mr. Alfonsus De Alban gives the audience some safety precautions before the magical show. Everybody takes shots and videos as the sky lights up for almost 7 minutes. It was such a grandest fireworks display where everybody uttered their “wows” as they proudly watch a spectacular show. Kudos to Mr. Teodoro Villacarlos, who generously sponsored the fireworks. A kick-off celebration likes no other for it leaves everyone a sense of pride having been part of St Mary’s College of Meycauayan, and a promise to wait for the highlight of its 100th year celebration.
Behind its success, an inspiration-filled with hopes and vision towards giving the institutions and its people nothing but words of thanks, is the former Mo. General of the RVM, Mo. Ma. Clarita R. Balleque,RVM. Everybody wishes “Long live SMCM”.
